KT-Tech's patent pending sound compression technology sets a new standard for general purpose, real-time, low bit-rate sound codecs. Like our still compression technology, KT-Tech is the sole owner of its sound compression algorithms, so licensing KT-Tech's sound codec is easy. KT-Tech's compression algorithm has the following capabilities:
  • High quality voice at 8 Kbit/s
  • Understandable voice at 4 Kbit/s
  • High quality music at 64 Kbit/s
  • Symmetric, real-time encoding and decoding
  • Lossless encoding capability
  • Graceful degradation for wireless delivery

Note: In order to listen to the KTS files listed below, you must download ktsplayer.zip (129K). This zip file contains the Win32 executable "ktsplayer.exe". After downloading a KTS file to your hard-drive, run ktsplayer.exe, select "Play/Open..." and select the KTS file. The file will play, and the bit-rate will display in the status bar. Currently, this code is still research-level and decompresses the whole sound before playing.

KT-Tech's sound compression provides high quality voice at 8 Kbit/s, and performs better than MP3, Windows Media, and Real Audio:

Though KT-Tech's compression algorithm is a general sound codec, and not specifically a vocoder, at 4 Kbit/s speech is still understandable (we weren't able to get the commercial encoders down to 4 Kbit/s for comparison):

At 32 Kbit/s, KT-Tech's stereo music sounds better than MP3 and Windows Media:

At 64 Kbit/s KT-Tech achieves high quality stereo music:
